A pair of white tailed Sea Eagles are the latest attraction on Lough Derg.
Coming up from Killarney National Park, they settled here and are now breeding on one of the islands. In the summer months a viewing hut is set up by the harbour with telescopes, so visitors can get a close up view of the eagle's nest. Having been driven to extinction in Ireland over a century ago, they are now a protected species and under the care of the Golden Eagle Trust. |

Further afield
Within a short drive you can reach an array of interesting destinations: historical places, celtic heritage, ring forts, high crosses, natural treasures like "the Burren" and the famous "Cliffs of Moher", the beautiful western coastline with beaches and the opportunity to watch dolphins, day trips to islands off the coast and miles of scenic walks along well signposted hiking routes.
Unfortunately public transport is few and far between in rural areas. Buses only operate as city links between Limerick , Ennis, Galway, Cork etc. Car hire therefore is advisable, alternatively we can arrange a mini-bus if you are travelling with a group of friends.
