About us
Woodland Sanctuary is a 23 acre family farm consisting of meadows, gardens, orchard, bogs, coppice and regenerating woodland, bordered by a mountain stream. Our site is surrounded by woods and heather, while still within walking distance (1 mile) of the scenic village of Mountshannon at the shores of Lough Derg.
We apply organic and permaculture principles, leaving as much wildlife habitat as possible and keeping human interference to a minimum. We grow a lot of our own food, fire wood (coppice) and keep a small flock of truly "free range" poultry.
Our "Woodland Kitchen", a small home-based food business, supplies the local village market with seasonal food, baking and preserves from orchard, garden and hedgerow treasures.
With more and more trees seeding themselves our place is already "carbon negative", sequestering more carbon than we omit.
